Cushnie et Ochs Fall 2012 & Lana Del Rey

Posted in By Em by styleinspades on February 12, 2012

Was Cushnie et Ochs’ Fall 2012 collection taking style cues from Lana Del Rey? A few of the CeO dresses had cutouts similar to the white Antonio Berardi dress Lana wore in her Born To Die music video:

.

They’re certainly not copies, but they are very similar. Also in the recent CeO collection was a sheer white button-up shirt similar to the one LDR wore on the cover of her new album:

Did CeO draw inspiration from Lana for their Fall collection?

NEXT: Paris Fashion Week

Posted in By Em, LOVE, NEXT by styleinspades on March 2, 2010
Paris Fashion Week starts today! In my opinion, Paris hosts the best fashion week. Many of the greatest designers show their collections in Paris, and the city is…as everyone always says, beautiful. I studied abroad in Paris for the Spring 2008 semester and remember seeing the tents in the Jardin des Tuileries for Fashion Week on my walk home from school.

.
Here are a (very) few of my photos from Paris:

My friend and I also hung around the outside of the Palais Royal on the night of the Yves Saint Laurent show. We saw Carine Roitfeld enter through a side door, and that was pretty much it. That was my moment as a fashion groupie in Paris. Short & sweet.

TREND: Swarovski Details at New York Fashion Week

Posted in By Em, TREND by styleinspades on March 1, 2010
During New York Fashion Week this February, Swarovski brightened the runway by collaborating with the best of New York’s elite designers. Alexander Wang and Rodarte were just two of a handful of designers that incorporated Swarovski Crystal Pearls into their collections:

Each Swarovski imitation pearl has a crystal core which gives it the same weight and cool temperature as a real pearl. So, if you ever wondered what materials designers use for embellishments, Swarovski seems to be a favorite.

LOVE: Emilio Pucci Fall 2010 RTW

Posted in By Em, LOVE by styleinspades on March 1, 2010
My favorite collection shown today was Emilio Pucci. Surprisingly, I loved about eighty percent of what I saw, so it was difficult to choose my “Top Four” looks:

.

.
The collection showcased tons of fringe and sparkle in a cooler color palette. Style.com described the show’s overall vibe as “High bohemia and opium-smoking dens. Peter Dundas has taken Pucci to a darker, more dangerous place in his third season at the label.”

I love it, I love it!

LOVE: Burberry Prorsum Fall 2010

Posted in By Em, LOVE by styleinspades on February 24, 2010
Yesterday I posted pictures of Kristen Stewart & Mary-Kate Olsen arriving at the Burberry Prorsum show. Sort of amusing that pictures of the celebrity audience were available online before…oh I don’t know, the actual clothes from the show? When I finally did get a chance to look at the new collection, I was surprised by the number of bulky shearling coats. Editors are already salivating over them, but I’m not sure I like them:
.

.

.
The leather covered ones are nice, but overall the proportions seem unflattering (can’t really say for sure without seeing them in personal). I do, however, love the extra straps and buckles that were incorporated into most of the pieces:

.
When asked what inspired him to create so many variations of the oversized shearling coat, Christopher Bailey responded by saying “it started when I looked at an aviator jacket in the archive. Then, as I started designing into it, I realized it could be as versatile as the trench–strong and sexy, masculine and feminie.” Thankfully, the entire show wasn’t dominated by the new coats and there were still plenty of classic Burberry looks to love.

.

Here are my “Top Four” from the Burberry Fall 2010 collection:

And I have to add:
…That I love Christopher Bailey
.

.

And this House of Holland shirt will never fail to make me laugh:
^FYI he signed this person’s shirt with “No I won’t!”

LOVE: J. Sabatino Autumn Winter 2010

Posted in By Em, LOVE by styleinspades on February 18, 2010
This Tuesday, J. Sabatino presented his new collection inspired by the films Blank Generation, and Permanent Vacation. ”The clothing seeks to capture the mood of downtown New York City in the late 1970s, early 1980s when it was filled with artists living in illegal lofts. The collection is a tribute to the characters who populated this scene & dressed in a magical mix of thrift store finds.”
.
How cool is that?! Extremely.
.
Take a look at the films’ poster art & then check out the J. Sabatino collection below:

LOVE: Proenza Schouler Fall 2010 RTW

Posted in By Em, LOVE, TREND by styleinspades on February 18, 2010
Between the ages of 5 & 10 my family moved twice. Each time our new house was redecorated. Where am I going with this? At some point, someone made the comment that adjacent rooms should always be aesthetically connected in some way. I thought of that design “rule” when I saw the new Proenza Schouler collection. There were elements from the Spring collection, used in a transitional way.

I thought some of the looks were a little Miu Miu…just an observation. I still love the collection.

NEXT: Alexander McQueen Will Show In Paris

Posted in By Em, NEXT by styleinspades on February 18, 2010
Surprise!

Amazing news. The latest collection Alexander McQueen was working on before his death will be shown during Paris Fashion Week. (Why Paris instead of London, idk don’t ask me these things)

Also, The Gucci Group will keep the McQueen brand going-contrary to initial beliefs…
.
I’ll take it.

NEXT: Jeremy Scott Fall 2010

Posted in By Em, NEXT by styleinspades on February 17, 2010
Why? How? Just two of the questions I asked myself when I saw the picture below.

.

Where exactly is this supposed to be worn? How does one wear this conjoined twin fashion? I am not saying that I dislike it, I’m just wondering what’s up.

.
This dress is just…I don’t know if I should go there. I’m just going to say I love it in an Andy Warhol sort of way and hope you get the message.

.

This is one of the safer outfits of the collection. I like it because even though it’s “safe,” it’s not boring (hello, boots).

.

.

Have you seen the Jeremy Scott collection yet? What are your thoughts?
