LOVE: J. Sabatino Autumn Winter 2010

Posted in By Em, LOVE by styleinspades on February 18, 2010
This Tuesday, J. Sabatino presented his new collection inspired by the films Blank Generation, and Permanent Vacation. ”The clothing seeks to capture the mood of downtown New York City in the late 1970s, early 1980s when it was filled with artists living in illegal lofts. The collection is a tribute to the characters who populated this scene & dressed in a magical mix of thrift store finds.”
.
How cool is that?! Extremely.
.
Take a look at the films’ poster art & then check out the J. Sabatino collection below:

LOVE: Modern Day Edie Sedgwick- Becka Diamond

Posted in By Em, LOVE, NEXT, WATCH by styleinspades on February 8, 2010
Coolest moment this week would have to be seeing Becka Diamond on a fashion shoot. At first I didn’t recognize her because her normally stick straight platinum blonde hair was, well… I’ll just say very different.

.

This was me (on the inside, of course) when I realized who she was:
Clueless from Style In Spades
.
She’s fairly new to the fashion scene, so I wouldn’t be surprised if not everybody knows who she is. The only reason I do, is because I’m an insane person who stalks the crap out of everyone on Street Peeper

So, in a nut shell, Becka Diamond is an aspiring actress from Boston. She was dubbed fashion’s new It Girl this September when she made the rounds at New York Fashion Week’s hottest shows & parties. Her best friend is model Dree Hemingway, with whom she is often photographed.

She is gorgeous in person & super charismatic.
Pretty sure there will be a lot of buzz about her come fashion week.

LOVE: Blondie + Brooklyn

Posted in By Em, LOVE by styleinspades on January 31, 2010
This past summer I visited a friend who lives in Memphis. We saw Blondie perform on Mud Island & it was fab.

.

The only thing we both found a little strange was what Debbie Harry was wearing. She had on some sort of weird, unflattering mumu. (Madame Butterfly, is that you?) She changed out of it later… thankfully. Take a look at Debbie Harry’s style of the past:

Last week I went to the Brooklyn Museum with a friend to see the “Who Shot Rock & Roll” photography exhibit. Of course there were pictures of Debbie Harry, so here’s my picture of a picture of Debbie:

WANT: Gossip Girl Spade Necklace

Posted in By Em, LOVE, WANT by styleinspades on January 28, 2010
For the past few years I’ve wanted an Alex Woo necklace. I thought the letter pendants were a great alternative to the Sex and the City nameplate necklaces everyone was wearing at the time. Since then, Alex Woo has come out with new collections ranging in design from numbers to symbols.

.

Predictably, I was most interested in the Little Vegas collection. I spotted Jenny Humphrey wearing the gold Little Vegas Spade necklace in the Dan de Fleurette episode this season.

.

Also, in an earlier episode, Blair wore Alex Woo’s Little Big Vegas Spade in white gold & diamonds. This makes sense because the suit of spades is often times the most powerful suit in a deck of cards. If you follow Gossip Girl, it should make sense that J and B wear necklaces that connote power. Blair was the “Queen of Constance” last year & Jenny has since taken her place.
.
.
It is fitting then, that Blair’s necklace is a bit bigger and brighter than Jenny’s. After all, she was the original ruler of the school & Jenny was merely a wannabe just a few episodes ago.

.

Here’s another funny Alex Woo spotting on Gossip Girl. Jenny’s three minions wear Little Number necklaces 1, 2, and 3 in silver. Not only is it completely degrading to be referred to as a number, but their necklaces are made of silver. Silver is nice but it doesn’t compare to Jenny’s gold or Blair’s diamonds. The necklaces definitely say a lot about their personalities (or lack there of).

Oh, Little J, how you’ve changed. Just a few seasons ago you were parading about the Met steps in a bright yellow trench.

Now you sulk around the city streets with a YSL bag financed by drug money. Tisk tisk.

NEXT: Gossip Girl Beanie

Posted in By Em, NEXT, TREND by styleinspades on January 20, 2010
Michael C. Hall won a Golden Globe for best actor in a drama series for Dexter this weekend. “It’s nice to have a justifiable excuse for accessorizing,” he said of the hat he wore to the ceremony.

.

What was that excuse? Cancer. Who screwed up? The New York Times. How? They made fun of his hat via tweet (not knowing he had cancer).

.

.

But do not fret, Michael C. Hall. For, the beanie, skull cap, hat, whatever you want to call it, is coming back into style.
You see, Señor Hall is way ahead of everyone. Take a look at these photos from the set of Gossip Girl. Taylor, Blake & Chace are all going to be wearing caps in future episodes that have not yet aired & were taped just this month.

LOVE: Brooklyn Oxfords

Oxfords from Eric Shoes on Seventh (Heaven)
Ooooooooooh seventh heaven. I actually hated that show but I couldn’t resist.
Anyways, today a friend and I walked down 7th Avenue, Brooklyn for no particular reason. It was freezing and we were beginning to think that taking a leisurely stroll through Siberia was a stupid idea when we spotted a little shoe store by 2nd Street.

.

.
I loved every single shoe at Eric on Seventh (thanks for making me feel like a shoe ho).  They’ve got Fryes, Fiorentini + Baker, Les Trois Garcons ballet flats, Timberlands & loads more. Now, I feel I should tell you the Timberlands they carry aren’t the nasty Wheat Nubuck “classics” with the dark collar a lot of rappers & construction workers like to wear. They look more like this:

.
.
P.S. The guy working there was actually helpful. Blasphemous, right? Very quick, & gave his honest opinion when asked. Best of all, I’m pretty sure I heard him tell a customer “you look hot as shit.”
