NEXT: Alexander McQueen Will Show In Paris
Surprise!
Amazing news. The latest collection Alexander McQueen was working on before his death will be shown during Paris Fashion Week. (Why Paris instead of London, idk don’t ask me these things)
Also, The Gucci Group will keep the McQueen brand going-contrary to initial beliefs…
.
I’ll take it.

Starting this post out with a bang. Or rather, a “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.” I took this photo at the very end of the show, but I think it deserves to be shown first:
I attended the Betsey Johnson Fall 2010 RTW show last night & my life is forever changed. Ok maybe that’s a little much, but the show really was spectacular. Because it was Valentine’s Day, the theme for the night was “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.” Models did not simply walk the runway. They acted as banditos, gamblers, rangers, vagabonds, farm hands, bank clerks, brothelettes, robbers, witches, gypsys & madames. Guns were pointed, money was thrown, and models were slapped.
.
The models also interacted with the audience a bit. One even threw front row guest, Melissa Joan Hart, her hat:
Some other interesting moments included Kelly Osbourne walking the runway & a small tribute to Alexander McQueen:

Here are my “Top Four” looks from the Betsey Johnson show:
I really can’t ramble on enough. The show was brilliant! Very entertaining & engaging.
Betsey ended it as she usually does- with cartwheels:

Here are a few more of my personal pictures:.

^Everyone wanted to have one of the huge blow up hearts to keep keep as a souvenir
.
.
I didn’t need a giant blow up heart because I got this awesome gift bag:
.
.
The gift bags included Stila makeup boxes that can be hooked up to an iPod or iPhone to play music. There were a few Betsey Johnson items, some Stila makeup, tons of discount cards, etc.

NEXT: Super Bowl Style
Honestly, I’m not even going to pretend I know squat about Sunday’s super bowl, or football in general. All I know is the fashion industry has a surprisingly large number of football fans as evidenced by some SS10 collections.
.
Let’s start of with the easy stuff. Alexander Wang & Alexander Herchcovitch both showed football shaped clutches in their SS10 collections:
.
^Alexander Wang “Brady” leather football clutch
.
I love the “Brady” clutch. I was holding it the other day, trying to decide if it’s the kind of thing one could actually use in everyday life, or if Wang made it just for kicks (no pun intended). It’s pretty fantastic in that it’s not as gimmicky as a football clutch could have been. I’d definitely wear it!

.
The rest of the Herchcovitch & Wang collections are pretty straight forward. They both have the big shoulder pads going on & most of the Alexander Wang pieces look particularly sporty…
.
.
Which is why we’re moving on to the abstract!
Alexander McQueen showed this glossy black football shaped clutch in the SS10 show:

And another shot so you can see the football shape:

Vanessa Bruno showed lace knee pads for SS10:

So…I wonder if Lady Gaga will get dressed up for the super bowl
Oh wait, she already rocks that look everyday

A while ago, I promised that I would write about Colleen Atwood. In case you didn’t know, she’s the costume designer for the upcoming Alice in Wonderland movie & has also designed for Nine, Chicago, Sweeney Todd, and Memoirs of a Geisha among others.
.

.
I love writing about costumes for television and movies. Yes, I also love Alexander McQueen & his creepy alien shoes. However, McQueen, like most designers does not consider the person who wears the clothes. Sizes are quite tiny, shoes can be nearly impossible to walk in, and sometimes it seems like the clothes are simply not meant to be worn! That is because on the runway a shoe is not really a shoe. Runway is fashion for fashion’s sake. It’s art.

.
Costumes, on the other hand, visually portray a character’s personality & circumstances. They have a slew of responsibilities from being period correct to considering what a character can afford to wear. Certain colors or motifs are also used to further convey a message about the character. Bottom line: costumes kick ass because they can be analyzed.
.
So back to Colleen. Take a look at her work:

^Memoirs of a Geisha
^Chicago
.
Alright then, so that’s Colleen Atwood’s work in a virtual nutshell. The Sweeney Todd costumes say “cya” (apathetically of course).
