NEXT: What They Wore to Glastonbury

Posted in By Em, NEXT by styleinspades on June 28, 2010
I thought Glastonbury was everyone’s favorite excuse to whip out the Hunter wellies…

.

Not anymore.
Apparently, leather Christian Louboutin boots and Louis Vuitton corset tops are the way to go:

NEXT: Christie’s London Rock & Pop Auction

Posted in By Em, NEXT by styleinspades on June 27, 2010
“A caricature by John Lennon of the singer and his wife, Yoko Ono, drawn during their 1969 ‘bed-in’ in Montreal, Canada has sold for £37,250. The piece, part of a rock and pop sale at Christie’s in London, was created during their peace protest at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel.

.

.

.

A guitar used by Pete Townshend, of The Who, fetched a top price of £49,250. The Gibson SG guitar- part of the largest collection of Who memorabilia ever auctioned- was used on The Who’s 1971 tour.
.
^Same guitar, in an earlier Sotheby’s auction catalogue. Notice the estimated value for the 1997 auction was £12,000-15,000.
The recent estimated value for the 2010 Christie’s auction was £20,000-30,000.
The actual hammer price was just over £49,000.
Jealous.

.

.

A  jacket worn by Michael Jackson also fetched £22,500 on the eve of the first anniversary of his death. Jackson’s black sequin stage jacket had a pre-sale estimate of just £2,000.

.

.

.

Meanwhile, a Les Paul guitar smashed by Steve Jones, of the Sex Pistols, at a gig at London’s 100 Club, sold for £16,250.”

Coincidence?

LOVE: Alice + Olivia’s Bonnaroo Diary

Posted in By Em, LOVE by styleinspades on June 19, 2010
Excerpts from designer, Stacey Bendet’s Bonnaroo Diary. Courtesy of StyleCaster:

..

“On the road! The start of our 20-hour drive was a bit rocky-the Airstream had some mechanical issues and we had to stop in the middle of nowhere New Jersey. Luckily, there was a nearby mall and while it wasn’t exactly Barneys, it did have a giant candy store with every gumball flavor you could ever imagine and a nail salon where we got last minute pedicures (Cleo and I did green, Diggy went black and Mollie went neon) Mia + Caitlin made amazing mixes for the trip and we had tons of games (everything from Checkers to Trivial Pursuit to Etch-A-Sketch) to keep us busy!”

.

.

“We Set up. The rainbow kiddie pool and margaritas were a hit. Everyone was trying to check out Caitlin in the pool and take photos in front of the airstream! We dressed her in a boxy silver sequin top and super cute army green silk mini skirt before she went to perform.”

.

.

“We all were obsessed with the silent disco tent where Mia and Caitlin (both clad in gold sequins) performed! Kings of Leon, She + Him, The Flaming Lips, Phoenix, and Jay-Z were other highlights. At Jay Electronica, Jay jumped down from the stage, grabbed Cleo, and sang a song to her. Mollie said, “That’s the most romantic thing that’s never happened to me.” Now, despite feeling like our feet might never be clean again, we are leaving the land of hip-hop and hippies and we are off to make over Nashville!”

Know which style icon was a big fan of straw hats?
Brigitte Bardot:

Coco Chanel wore straw hats too. According to the Italian Vogue website, she “started out in fashion making hats as a hobby. Over the years Chanel became known for her straw hats and in particular the flat brimmed boater style typically seen on school children.”

WANT: Prada’s Carsten Höller Slide

Posted in By Em, WANT by styleinspades on June 9, 2010
Apparently, this is how you exit the Prada Group’s Milan headquarters:

.

No joke.
According to The Daily Telegraph, “when the Italian fashion designer Miuccia Prada is in especially high spirits, she leaves her office on a slide. The entrance to it, a stainless-steel funnel that looks like an airlock leading into a spaceship, emerges from the middle of the polished concrete floor of her minimalist office.”

.

.

The Höller slides were previously exhibited as part of the Tate Modern’s Unilever Series. Click HERE to watch a video a visitor took on their way down.
