So, if you haven’t already heard- Kate Moss is engaged to Jamie Hince. Thus, I have an excuse to write a somewhat relevant post about her style.
.
The Kate Moss craze never really went away since she first started modeling in the 90s. Most women are fascinated with her style and would name her as one of their “style icons.”
.
.
So what is it about her that so many people wish to emulate? Sure, there are a few key pieces like skinny jeans, ballet flats, and “it bags” in neutral colors & leopard print that Moss tends to favor. That’s fairly easy to mimic.
.
^Typical Kate Moss awesomeness
.
But there is also something else. There’s something about her tendency to look beautiful whilst disheveled that is intriguing & more difficult to successfully pull off. Below is a photo of Moss arriving at an event in a vintage Christian Dior gown:
.
Later that night, she was photographed leaving looking completely different. Her hair was a mess and her dress…her vintage Christian Dior dress…was completely ruined. Except it wasn’t really ruined, the rip was somehow an improvement on the original:
.
Eric Damon, costume designer for Gossip Girl, has based the style of Serena van der Woodsen on Moss in an attempt to create that je ne sais quoi quality.

I have to say though… I sort of prefer the young Kate Moss. I didn’t even realize how different she looks now until I saw this old photo of her:

.
Also on a side note, I like her style much more when she was with Pete Dogherty. Now she’s starting to put more effort into what she wears & has been adding more color… Oh well
.
.
.
P.S. how annoying would that be to wear around your eye. It looks awesome but damn if you need to touch your eye or something…

This was such a good post on Kate! I always love looking at early photos of her, and love the terry richardson shots, that capture a heightened version of her tousled chic look best.
Thank you!!
I LOVE KATE MOSS.
Of course you do ;)
Love Kate Moss. Recently saw a bio on her and totally remembered why she made such an impact on the fashion world.
I’d love to check it out! Do you remember what it was called?
I think it was one of those E! True Hollywood Stories…:)
Ooh I’ll have to try to catch it when it’s on again- thanks!
I totally agree that I prefer the younger photos better, she seemed so much happier then, now she never seems to really smile.
